Our Pastor's Wife
Lisa Ann Clayton

Lisa Ann Clayton is the youngest of eight children born to Mazie Kendrick and the late Nathaniel Kendrick. She was born in Paterson, NJ and raised in Passaic, NJ. She received her primary education in the Passaic Public Schools and is a graduate of Passaic High School. Lisa earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from William Paterson University.
Lisa’s spiritual nurture began at the Calvary Baptist Church of Garfield, NJ, the church of her family since the mid 1940’s when her father’s family migrated to New Jersey from Lincolnton, Georgia. It was at Calvary that Lisa accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized by the Rev. Dr. Calvin McKinney.
In her adult years while still a part of the Calvary Church, Lisa actively served as a member of the Choir, an instructor in Sunday School, and Director of the Children’s Choir.
It was at Calvary that she met her husband, Kenneth D. R. Clayton with whom she was united in marriage on September 2, 1994. Rev. and Mrs. Clayton’s lives are blessed with four wonderful children, a daughter (Min.) Alesha, Justin, and twins Kenneth and Kendrick.
Since March of 1997 Sister Clayton has been a part of the St. Luke Church Family, uniting with St. Luke at the onset of her husband’s pastoral ministry.
Sister Clayton has not been content to serve God, St. Luke, or her Pastor in a passive fashion. She is actively involved in the life of St. Luke Church. Her gifts of self, substance and service have been a blessing to our entire congregation, men, women, children, youth, and adults. All who meet her are enriched by her charm, beauty and love for God and people.
Sister Clayton is employed at Maquet Inc. Wayne, NJ as a Customer Service Representative.
In her years at St. Luke she has served as an Instructor for New Discipleship Class and an Advisor for the Youth and Children’s Choirs. She currently is the Leader of the Women’s Ministry, an Instructor in Sunday Morning Bible Study and is a regular instructor in our Christian Education Institutes. Sister Clayton has led the women of SLBC to participate in conferences in Dallas, Texas as well as to create our own Women’s Retreats. Under her leadership the Women’s Ministry provides the women of SLBC the opportunity to grow in their faith and use their gifts to honor the Lord.
Sister Clayton has been a speaker for Women’s Services at St. Luke, local churches and a speaker for other Christian events. She has participated in several National conferences for women and minister’s wives. She has been honored by the General Baptist Convention of NJ for her service to the Baptist denomination in our state.
Sister Clayton has been a role model to young women, an inspiration to married women trying to balance life, marriage, and motherhood, and has been a blessing to adult women who love her as a daughter but at the same time are inspired by her faith, strength and virtue.
