The Ministry of Worship, Music, and Arts
Greetings,
The Ministry of Worship, Music, and Arts exists to bring glory to God and ministers to God’s people as they support and promote the vision of St. Luke in worship.
The goal for the Ministry of Worship, Music, and Arts is, “to enrich through ministry the Sunday morning worship services, and special worship events through creative Christlike and balanced music, dance and dramatic presentations.” All offerings must reflect our being and beliefs as the Christian community and be biblically sound in its content.
Music and artistic expression (dance) have been important functions in the life of the people of God throughout the Bible. In the Old Testament the musicians and singers had an important role in temple worship (see 1st Chronicles 6:31; 9:33; 15:16-24; 16:4-7). Likewise, in the New Testament, the apostle Paul in his letter to the believers at Ephesus admonishes us to “Speak to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:19-20).
The component areas in this ministry are the:
- Music Ministry Staff
Kendrick Clayton, Percussionist
Taylor Moore, Percussionist
Jordan Randolph, Organist
- Youth and Teen Choir
~ This choir is comprised of children and youth of SLBC who are active in Children’s Ministry, Youth Ministry and/or Sunday Bible Study. They
sing every Third Sunday and rehearse the Tuesday and Thursday before the Third Sunday.
- Men’s Choir
~ This choir is comprised of men of SLBC who unite to celebrate Christ in song and inspire those who worship with us. They sing every Fourth
Sunday and rehearse on the Tuesday and Thursday before the Fourth Sunday.
- The Voices of St. Luke
~ This choir is comprised of adult men and women who sing every First Sunday to offer praise to God in song. They rehearse the Tuesday and
Thursday before the First Sunday.
- Young Adult Choir
~ This choir is comprised of young adults (male and female) who sing praises to God every Second Sunday. They rehearse the Tuesday and
Thursday before the Second Sunday.
- Mass Choir
~ This choir is comprised of adult men and women who sing every Fifth Sunday to offer praise to God in song. They rehearse the Tuesday and
Thursday before the Fifth Sunday.
- The Drama Ministry
~ The SLBC Drama Ministry is comprised of SLBC disciples of all ages who produce, create, and participate in various original theatrical
productions at various times throughout the year.
- Praise Dancers (Youth and Adults)
~ The ministry of dance provides an opportunity for disciples of SLBC to worship God through the beauty of dance, as a spiritual offering to
the Lord. The dance ministry is open to children, youth, and adults (male and female).
- Mime Ministry
~ The purpose of the Mime Ministry is to promote creative expression in worship through the art of mime. This group of young men, and
young women enrich our worship through their creative expression.
- The Acolytes
~ The Acolytes are young men of SLBC who serve during our Holy Communion worship and other designated Holy Days. They light and
extinguish the altar candles during worship. They exist to help our congregation attain a sense of reverence during these sacred worship
services.
As we seek to "Know Christ and Make Him Known" through music and dance with a spiritual concentration; seeking to provide diversity and worship services that will appeal to the young and old so that no one is left out. We are here to magnify and give glory to the Almighty God and to lead others to encounter God through worship. If you are a disciple of SLBC and have gifts or talent in the areas of music, dance or drama we invite you to become a part of one of the component areas of this ministry.
